About EuroSkills

EuroSkills competitions are the European championships of trades. More than 600 young talents from 32 countries line up for exciting competitions, determined to give their all and demonstrate their skills in areas, such as floristry, cyber security, metal construction, fashion design, or the hotel industry. Overall, about 45 skills competitions are held in each edition.

In 2029, all eyes will be on cosmopolitan Geneva. The city sits on the westernmost tip of Switzerland and will host the tenth EuroSkills championships from 27 to 29 September.

About EuroSkills organisers

EuroSkills competitions are the flagship events of the WorldSkills Europe association. The association is committed to turn the spotlight on vocational education and to highlight the importance of well-trained professionals. The organization was founded in 2007 and now includes 32 member countries, all of which send participants to the European Skills Championships every two years and take turns organizing the mega event.

Thus, many rising professional stars travelled to Budapest in September 2018, to Graz in 2021, and to Gdansk in 2023 and turned each of these cities into hotspots of future professionals.

The goals of EuroSkills competitions

EuroSkills competitions are part of the WorldSkills movement, a global initiative to promote vocational education and strengthen the image of craftsmanship and technical skills. WorldSkills offers young people an opportunity to demonstrate their skills in a competition and to exchange ideas with like-minded people from all over the world.

Geneva

Hosting the 2029 EuroSkills competitions represents a wonderful opportunity to highlight the importance of vocational education for the Geneva region and the entire French-speaking part of Switzerland. The event also reflects the cantons and the region’s readiness to promote the many career paths that open up through vocational education. The 2029 competitions will be the result of a joint commitment to education in a city that is ideally suited for major events with its superb urban environment, its beautiful location between the lake and the mountains, and its world-class infrastructure (including an international airport). Boasting adequate spaces and state-of-the art infrastructure, Palexpo will be the perfect competition venue that can guarantee ideal conditions for both competitions and related activities.

The organisation has been entrusted to an independent association led by Sophie Dubuis, Vice President of the Swiss Employers' Association (Union Patronale Swiss/Schweizerischer Arbeitgeberverband). The year 2025 will focus on operational implementation, which will serve as the foundation for preparing the major event at full scale. Holding the 2029 edition of the competitions will also be possible thanks to the support of the Swiss Confederation, the Canton of Geneva, the City of Geneva, and of businesses and private foundations committed to vocational education. The EuroSkills association is delighted to be able to work with SwissSkills, Palexpo, the Geneva employers’ association (Union Patronal Genevoise), the Fédération des Entreprise Romandes (FER), and the Cité des Métiers du Grand Genève.
